For centuries, the traditional events of the Merano Region have focused on a few essential themes, with wine being one of the most popular ones. More than anything else, wine-growing has shaped Merano and its environs, as well as the entire South Tyrol region. It comes as no surprise that several annual festivals in Tirolo and the town of Merano are dedicated to this theme. Special highlights are provided during the Pinot Noir days in May; the grape festival celebrating the end of the grape harvest in October that culminates with a big parade, elaborate floats, and traditional costumes; the VinoCulti event for all lovers of regional wine specialities; and, of course, the three-day Merano wine festival in November. The centuries-old South Tyrolean tradition of Törggelen is an event in itself, stretching over several weeks in autumn. In a warm and cosy ambience, a variety of regional delicacies and fresh farm produce are served, allowing you to explore the many tastes of South Tyrol. Further highlights are the night of the gardens at Trauttmansdorff Castle, the Merano music weeks, and the soirées of Tyrol Castle.
